I approached Dafi Rugs, a small, family-owned sheep farm in Manitoba positioning itself to sell sheepskin rugs. After brief exposure to the family’s farming practice, approach to tanning and preparing the sheepskins, I asked to help them better develop their sustainability communications.

Responsibly Raised + Produced in Canada.

The beauty of the traditional, small-scale method we use to prepare and tan our sheepskin, is that it’s inherently sustainable. As part of our traditional practice, nothing can be wasted when taking the life of another living being.

We use only what we need.

Farming sheep is part of our culture and cuisine, and making (and finding use for) sheepskin is a built-in way to respect the lives of sheep. Sheepskin is only the result of a sheep that we used for food.

All-natural tanning technique.

Our products are tanned by members of our family, right in Manitoba. The back of the rugs are hard because unlike other techniques, we do not use acid as part of our tanning process. Our tanning process uses only sun, tea and salt.
